Toyota Gazoo Racing hopes to extend WEC lead in Silverstone defence

The DENSO-sponsored hybrid team is heading to Silverstone with the aim of extending its WEC championship lead.
While Formula One’s stint at Silverstone has just been and gone, the excitement at the iconic circuit is far from over in the FIA World Endurance Championship, as the DENSO-sponsored Toyota Gazoo Racing team arrives at the home of British motorsport in August.
Following a commanding victory at Silverstone last year, the Toyota Gazoo Racing team not only hopes to repeat its 2017 win but increase the overall lead in the race for the Championship.
The Six Hours of Silverstone race can be considered a “mini Le Mans” in Britain and the Toyota team will be aiming for a similar result to the one seen at the legendary French circuit in June.
Toyota Gazoo Racing heads to the Six Hours of Silverstone on a high after a memorable and historic win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans event, which saw Toyota’s pair of TS050 HYBRIDS earn the top two podium places and a staggering fastest lap of 3:17.658.
Though the WEC season is still in its early stages, the DENSO-sponsored outfit has been in commanding form, with Toyota leading the teams’ rankings thanks to a combination of advanced hybrid technology and a strong team of drivers. The TS050 features several key DENSO components including the rear hybrid motor, the inverter, spark plugs as well as the oil and water coolers.
The addition of F1 legend Fernando Alonso to a line-up that already boasted Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima, Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López has propelled the team to an impressive 27-point lead after just two races and hopes are high for a second consecutive Silverstone victory.
The FIA World Endurance Championship Six Hours of Silverstone will take place from 17 – 19 August.
