DENSO-sponsored hybrid team extends lead at the top of the WEC championship.

Winning Picture

The DENSO-sponsored Toyota team clinched an impressive one-two victory in the Japanese WEC at the Fuji speedway.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing traversed changing track conditions, with a wet track which dried within the first hour.

With both DENSO and TOYOTA founded in Japan, the DENSO-sponsored TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team made it a memorable sixth victory at the Japanese circuit on its seventh visit.

The winning trio in the TS050 HYBRID #7 was composed of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López. Second on the podium was the TS050 HYBRID #8, composed of Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and F1 star Fernando Alonso.

Race Start

The powerful TS050 HYBRID engines took advantage of the Speedway’s long straight, with the #7 delivering a fastest lap time of 1:25.603, a second and a half quicker than the next non-TOYOTA vehicle in the race. The powerful #7 and #8 hybrids also recorded the fastest speeds of the race, reaching 191.9mph and 190.9 mph respectively.

Following a commanding victory at Le Mans in June and a disappointing result at Silverstone, TOYOTA have reopened an impressive lead at the top of the WEC Championship, celebrating their third victory of the season.

The DENSO-sponsored outfit has been in commanding form, with TOYOTA leading the teams’ rankings thanks to a combination of advanced hybrid technology – some of which was developed by DENSO – and a strong team of drivers. The TS050 features several key DENSO components including the rear hybrid motor, the inverter, spark plugs as well as the oil and water coolers.

Technology and driver skill has propelled the teams to an impressive 14 point lead after four races, and hopes are high for another victory at Shanghai next month.

The next FIA World Endurance Championship race, Six Hours of Shanghai will take place on the 18th November 2018.
