How they work
Containing an impeller and electrical motor, the Cabin Blower Fan – located inside the car’s air conditioning unit - generates a fl ow of air which passes through the A/C unit and into the vehicle cabin, to cool or heat it.
The amount of air generated by the Cabin Blower Fan depends on the air permeability of each of the components that make up the car’s cabin ventilation system; namely the external air intake (below the windscreen), the air conditioning unit, the air ducts in the cabin/cockpit module, and the cabin itself.
DENSO’s experts are continually enhancing the design of our Intercoolers, with a particular focus on achieving reduced fuel consumption and emissions. The Intercooler is a heat exchanger that cools the air entering the turbine of a turbocharged engine. The use of Intercoolers is increasing thanks to the growing presence of supercharged engines.
The radiator is the heart of the engine cooling system, releasing the heat extracted from the engine into the atmosphere. Usually the radiator is located in the front side of the vehicle near to the air intake, in order to exploit the dynamics of speed while the car moves forward.
In cars that are equipped with an air conditioning system, the Radiator will be larger and more powerful in order to dissipate the heat discharged by the Condenser. DENSO Radiators – co-developed with air conditioning experts – are able to meet every running requirement, even under the most challenging environmental conditions.
The role of the engine Cooling Fan is to increase the flow of cooling air that reaches the Radiator.
Although usually positioned behind the heat exchanger (Radiator), in some applications the Cooling Fan is placed in front of the Radiator to increase the flow of cooling air whilst travelling slowly or when stationary. Cooling Fans operate using a solenoid valve, controlled by temperature sensors and coolant pressure sensors and activated only when needed. Cars that are fitted with an air conditioning system require a Cooling Fan featuring a more powerful solenoid valve.
The task of this heat exchanger is to provide heat to the vehicle cabin. In a simple process, engine coolant crosses the heater at a high temperature, providing heat when the cabin fan control is switched on from the dashboard. A Heater Core is installed in both climate controlled and heater-only vehicles.
The Oil Cooler is an exchanger that controls the temperature of lubricants such as the engine oil, gearbox and power steering oil inside the engine. Excessively high temperatures lead to a rapid degradation of the oil’s lubrication characteristics, with the risk of damaging mechanical parts.
